Estonia

The Republic of Estonia is one of the three Baltic States located on the shore of the Baltic Sea. In the north, it is bordered by the Gulf of Finland, in the east by Russia, in the south by Latvia, in the southwest by the Gulf of Livonia, and in the west by the Baltic Sea. Estonia is small; including the islands, it has an area of 45,225 square kilometres.

Estonia has about 1500 islands, of which Hiiumaa and Saaremaa are the largest. Estonia is one of the smallest countries in Europe in terms of population. In terms of area, Estonia is larger than Slovenia, the Netherlands, Denmark or Switzerland -- slightly smaller than New Hampshire and Massachusetts combined.

Estonia’s measures 350 km from west to east and 240 km from north to south. The sea islands make up about 10% of Estonia’s area and lakes, about 5%. By population, Estonia is one of the smallest in the world. As of early 2000, Estonia was home to 1,361,242 people. That makes for a population density of only 30.2 people per km²
